12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

The segment I have chosen young people ages 16-21. This segment was most accessible to me for interviewing, and I believe this age group would be most likely to use the application.
When interviewing my three people, I noticed the consistency of them wanting to use this app mostly in the evening or at night. This was there cool down time from all that they did. They also said that this would be the only time they would get to themselves. The oldest I interviewed, Tasha, works a full-time job and goes to school. She feels the only time she would have time for this is in the middle of the night.

The three I interviewed know they has a mental health problem but have never had the time or will to search for help. Sydney brought up that she has heard of an app like mine but read reviews and decided not to pursue. The app seemed to not be helpful to people and a waste of time. However, I could not easily find this app when I googled it.

Overall, I learned that this app will likely be used more for those who need to be assessed by a psychologist conveniently. Many just find it hard to make it to the psychologist, not that they are embarrassed. It will be beneficial to both needs.

This segment would likely not look up the app, but if it was presented in front of them or if they saw an ad, they may be interested. They would me more “monkey see, monkey do” users. Each person I interviewed was wanting to pay more attention to their mental health but did not know how or when.

  1. Hi Hayley,
I find it really interesting that the people you interviewed said that they didn’t have the will to look for help. 16-21 year olds should be getting help now before they are even busier with a full-time job or even a family. If they need help they should be willing and able to get it. I think that convince has a lot to do with this age group using your app. Some 16-21 year olds don’t have cars to drive to see psychologist or are embarrassed that they need to see someone, so they would really benefit from your app. Great post!

  2. Hi Hayley
I think that you made an excellent choice with the age group that you have targeted. Entering into adulthood, many teenagers struggle with feeling comfortable in their own skin and often have no idea as to why. Through your app, they could have the chance to conveniently consult medical information about mental health. If the only thing stopping people from getting the help they need is a drive to a psychiatrist, then the best way to solve this is by shortening the distance to the phone in their pocket.
