19A – Idea Napkin No. 2

You. Who you are. What your talents are. What your skills and experiences are. Also: what are your aspirations? Specifically regarding your business concept, how do you see this business (if you were to start it) playing a role in your life?

Hi. I’m Hayley. I believe I am a really talented cook (I actually wanted to go to culinary school right out of high school, but college first seemed like a better idea). I am passionate about lifting other people through food and talking to them. At some point, I hope to be a chef at my own restaurant (way in the future). I feel the need to help others is present in the business idea, as I want to create a comfortable place for people to get help. This business would become the focus in life because of how passionate I would be about it.

What are you offering to customers? Describe the product or service (in other words, how you'll solve customers' unmet needs).

I am offering customers a way to get help without any direct contact. Ultimately, I am making it easier for people because it is something that will be right at their fingertips. Their unmet need is not having the will or ability to actually go seek help, and the app meets this need.

Who are you offering it to? Describe, in as much detail as possible, the demographic and psychographic characteristics of your customers. Think especially of this question: what do your customers all have in common?

My customers will be a younger generation, as the older generations are usually the ones who have poor attitudes towards mental health. However, adults could be the main users because they are too uncomfortable about their mental health issue and going to see a psychologist. This offers them a way to “secretly” get help. According to NAMI, “50% of all lifetime cases of mental illness begin by age 14 and 75% by age 24.” It will accommodate those people who cannot connect with other individuals, or their family as easy as they would with a psychologist.

Why do they care? Your solution is only valuable insofar as customers believe its valuable to them. Here, explain why customers will actually pay you money to use your product or service.

People will pay to not be “humiliated.” (You should not feel humiliated to go see a doctor, but this is what others may feel.) People will pay for comfort. Just like people will pay for a more expensive couch because it feels “softer” or more “firm.” The app is also convenient to the everyday busy person, who might only have odd times of the day to tend to their mental health.

What are your core competencies? What sets you apart from everyone else? Also: what do you have that nobody else has

I like to believe I am an analytical thinker, especially about things I really care about or interested in. This product is different from many others because psychologists are at people’s finger tips and allows comfort and convenience.

Conclusion of 5 Elements

These elements fit together. It was difficult finding demographics of people that would use the app, but I made an educated guess from the research I did. A lot of surveys that people take about this topic are not always completely honest, so I feel like the results are not always fully accurate.

Feedback memo

I did not receive a lot of feedback on my previous napkin post. However, Natalie felt my app would be beneficial to those who hate going to the doctor or to ask for help. She feels the app would make people more willing to. I did elaborate more on that part. I also elaborated on what I was providing to customers and making more clear the needs that are unmet.

  1. Hi Hayley,
I love that you elaborated more on how the app also benefits those who hate going to the doctor and asking for help. Once again, I think that your app is a great idea. I couldn’t agree more about how easy getting help will be with this new app. Everything they need will be right at their fingertips. This app will benefit a wide range of people. From people who simple are embarrassed to ask for help to those who are busy being a super mom during the day. They will all now have the ability to get help in an extremely convenient way. Great post!!
